Beginning
The shores of Onego Lake were populated from ancient times.
Pure water and great amounts of various fish attracted people. Different traces of those
settlements can be found on the shores of Onego Lake, nowadays. One of them is famous
petroglyphs of Onego Lake. Petroglyphs are images "drawn" by ancient people on stone
(on rocks). It is a unique example of ancient culture of this region, of all Karelia and the
whole North-West of Europe.
