The Faculty of Physics and Technics originally was part of the
Faculty of Physics and Mathematics founded in 1940. The Faculty of Physics (the Faculty of
Physics and Technics, since 2001) has been since 1986 an independent subdivision at the
Petrozavodsk University. The Faculty's Chairs of General Physics, Solid State Physics,
Physical Electronics, Electronic and Ionic Instrumentation, Geophysics, train specialists in physics,
physical electronics, computer science and data management systems, geophysics,
information and internet technologies. The Faculty's Labs and classrooms are equipped
with up-todate measuring instruments, state-of-the-art technological outfit and
sophisticated devices and appliances. The Faculty regularly hosts All-Russian and
international conferences and seminars in physics.
