Over the smooth surface of the "Negotiation rock", gazing at the
letters imprinted on it, our thoughts seem to penetrate into inaccessible Time.
"See this. During the war of Turkey, France, England, Sardinia
against Russia here were held negotiations between Father Superior A. and British
officer N. on June 22, Wednesday, at 11 AM, at the orders of chief of the enemy military
squadron in the White Sea, who demanded the Monastery give bulls (the note was
submitted to the Holy Sinod). After negotiations, successful for the Monastery, Father
Superior, on returning ot the Monastery at 1 PM held a thanksgiving service and liturgy at the
Church of the Assumption; the services ended at 4 PM. That week there was a three-day
high post in the Monastery and sketes, and that summer the Lord did not permit the
belligerents to disturb the enochs' peace, as it had happened without mercy in 1854. A.A."

Like the touch of a light breeze from the past century we
experience sweet satisfaction for the successful issue of the negotiations. And, perhaps,
even pride for stubborn bishop Alexander. And, perhaps, compassion for the British
squadron left without fresh staples. Who knows what other feelings this silent stone plaque
can arouse in us?
