   The stone images (petroglyphs) of Onego Lake were discovered by scientists in the middle of nineteenth century. Extraordinary in their plots, they attracted large attention as a comparative material for researches of the similar monuments in Scandinavia, where images of both Arctic Stone Age (hunter type) and Bronze Age (agricultural type) exist.
   Every time, when scientists began an additional exploration of the rocks, they would reveal new images and traces of ancient settlings near them.

After uncountable number of researches, continuing even nowadays, it turned out that the complex of stone images of Onego Lake is extremely rich and large. It includes 24 areas with images and spreads along the shore on 21 kilometre, involving even some islands.
   The main part of petroglyphs, over 600, that is about two thirds of the whole number, is situated on three capes: Peri-Nos, Besov Nos and Cladovets. These are granite capes lying very close to each other. Besov Nos cape is the longest one.
   During last years, it was discovered that there are some stone canvases farther to the North, also. About 200 new stone images were found near the mouth of Vodla river and a kilometre to the North from it.
