   As far as Karelia is a republic of Russian Federation, one needs a valid passport and Russian entry visa for visiting its territory. The entry visa can be obtained at a local Embassy or Consulate. The visa must be registered within 3 days (72 hours) upon your arrival to Russia (excluding weekends and official holidays). It is required to fill in the migration card upon crossing the Russian border. It is important to keep Your migration card during the whole period of Your stay in our country.

The sites usually contain information on obtaining Russian visa: documents, requirements, fees, periods, rules and laws and other details, also. Some of them offer visa application form and migration card form, so one can download, print and fill them in.


Russian Tourist Visa Requirements



  • Original passport with at least 2 blank pages
  • Russian visa application form(s), completed and signed
  • One passport-size (3x4cm) photo signed on the back
  • Citizens of the countries which are members of the Shengen agreement and citizens of Finland, Estland, Chech Republic, Bulgaria and Israel should have a medical insurance, valid in Russia. They should submit the following documents: filled up medical insurance card containing information on their insurance company, which is valid in Russia; travel insurance (a certificate from the insurance company with the information on the insurance period)
  • An original tourist voucher (or its copy attested by the authorized travel agency) from a travel agency in Russia with stamp and signature of an authorized person. Or an official invitation, processed by Passport and Visa Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation
  • A standard Tourist Confirmation (in Russian language) of acceptance from the authorized Russian travel agency or a hotel (for individual tourists), registered with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The confirmation must contain the agency's reference number and registration number
  • A standard covering letter from your travel agency in your country or from an authorized Russian hosting organization. The letter should contain the following information:
    1. Applicant's name, surname, date of birth, number of passport and citizenship (or the same data for the whole tourist group)
    2. Dates and points of entry and departure from Russia
    3. Itinerary (points of destination)
    4. Type of a trip (bus, train, car or airplane)
    5. The name of the hosting Russian company and its reference number of the authorized hosting Russian organization in the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation or its Representative Office
    6. Date of issuing, official stamp and signature of the head of the authorized Russian hosting organization
   Note: Russian tourist visa is issued for a period of no more than 30 days (can be valid not longer than for this period)! So it allows to stay on the territory of Russia not longer than for 30 days.

Registration of the Visa upon Arrival



   Your Russian visa must be registered within 72 hours upon your arrival to the territory of Russian Federation (excluding weekends and official holidays).
   A tourist visa can be registered at a hotel. If You are not going to stay at a hotel, You can register it at a local department of the Passport and Visa Service.
   Please, remember that if Your visa is not registered within the specified period, You are acting against the Russian law and You can get into serious trouble!
